Gears of War: E-Day - Game Pass, Xbox or Steam?
Compare Game Pass access with buying Gears of War: E-Day on Xbox or Steam. Choose between Standard and Premium, then find the right gift card or subscription to buy with crypto on ACEB.
Gears of War: E-Day · Buying guide
You want to play Gears of War: E-Day. Should you use Game Pass, buy it through Xbox, or add it to your Steam library? The best choice depends on how long you expect to play, whether you switch between console and PC, and whether getting in before the general release matters to you.
Choose the access you want first, then the edition and payment option. A subscription, a purchased game and a gift card each do a different job. Getting that choice right can save you from buying a full copy when your existing membership already covers the launch.
Premium Edition and eligible Premium Upgrade players.
Worldwide launch at 15:00 UTC / 8:00 a.m. Pacific.
Dates and launch time are confirmed by Xbox Wire. Early access is already underway as of this article’s fact-check date.

Game Pass vs buying E-Day: match the choice to your plans
Think about what happens after the first weekend. Someone who wants to experience the campaign has a different buying decision from someone planning regular multiplayer sessions for the next six months. These are our recommendations for the most common situations.
| Your situation | Our recommendation | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| You already have Ultimate | Use your membership at general release. | Try the game before deciding whether you want to buy a separate copy. |
| You mainly want the campaign on PC | Compare PC Game Pass with buying Standard. | Consider the time you realistically have to play and the other games you would use. |
| You expect to return for months | Consider a purchased Standard copy. | Compare a one-off game purchase with the membership cost across those months. |
| You use Xbox and a Windows PC | Buy the Microsoft/Xbox digital version. | Xbox Play Anywhere can make one purchase useful on both devices. |
| Your PC games are already on Steam | Buy the Steam version. | Keep E-Day with the library you normally use. |
| You want to play before October 6 | Check Premium Edition or an eligible Premium Upgrade. | Decide whether the remaining early-access time justifies the extra spend. |
Is Game Pass worth it for Gears of War: E-Day?
E-Day joins Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 6. Ultimate is the subscription option for Xbox Series X|S and also covers PC; PC Game Pass is the option for a Windows player who does not need console access.[2]
If you already subscribe to an eligible plan, our advice is to use it first. You can see whether E-Day becomes a game you keep returning to before committing to a full purchase. If you are subscribing specifically for this release, compare the membership period you expect to need with the price of the game.
A short subscription can be a sensible choice when you have time to play now and will also use other included titles. Buying becomes more attractive if your schedule is unpredictable or you expect E-Day to be a regular part of your library. Do the comparison over your likely playing period, rather than judging everything against one month.
With Game Pass, access lasts while your eligible subscription remains active and the game remains in its catalogue. Buying a separate copy removes that dependence for the base game.[6]
Our buying advice: use an existing membership, consider a short subscription if you want to try E-Day now, and compare a purchased copy if you expect to keep coming back.
Standard vs Premium: what does the extra money buy?
Standard is the straightforward full-game purchase. Premium adds early access and a package of extras. The upgrade is for players who already have qualifying access to the base game; it is not a standalone copy.
| Option | Example price | What you are buying |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $69.99 | The base game, available from general release. |
| Premium Edition | $99.99 | The base game with premium extras and the advertised early-access entitlement. |
| Premium Edition Upgrade | $30.00 | The premium extras. The Microsoft/Xbox listing requires the base game or Game Pass Ultimate, sold separately. |
Edition prices: official Xbox game page. Upgrade requirements: Microsoft/Xbox upgrade listing. Local prices, taxes and offers may differ.
The premium package includes the Bravo Squad weapon cosmetics, 1,000 Iron and five seasonal customization packs, with the Emergence Pack available at launch and the others arriving as released.[4] We would choose it for someone who wants those extras or will make real use of the remaining early-access time.
Buying on October 4 does not give you five new days before launch. The advertised window began on October 1 and ends at the October 6 general release. If you cannot play until then, decide whether the extras alone are worth the additional cost.
Already own Standard through Microsoft/Xbox? Compare the upgrade before buying another full edition. Already have Ultimate? The listed upgrade provides a way to add the premium benefits without buying the complete Premium Edition, but you still need qualifying base-game access.[3]
Xbox or Steam on PC: which store makes more sense?
If you own an Xbox Series X|S and a Windows gaming PC, the Microsoft/Xbox digital version has a concrete advantage: E-Day supports Xbox Play Anywhere.[1] Microsoft’s terms cover qualifying digital purchases through Xbox Store or Windows Store, letting you use the same purchase across supported console and PC devices with your Microsoft account.[5]
That makes it our choice if you genuinely use both devices. If all your PC gaming happens in Steam and you do not need a console copy, buying there may fit your habits better. E-Day’s Steam listing offers Standard and Premium editions, so you can choose the edition within that store.[7]
A Steam purchase does not include an Xbox console licence. Play Anywhere’s purchase entitlement applies to the qualifying Microsoft/Xbox version. Steam’s listing separately describes cross-platform play and roaming saves with account linking; playing with friends or carrying progress is a different benefit from owning the game on another store.[5][7]
If you buy the game and plan to play online multiplayer on Xbox, remember that online console multiplayer requires a Game Pass plan that includes that benefit. Include that membership in your total cost.[1][6]
Which ACEB product fits your E-Day purchase?
Once you have chosen, the payment choice is simple: fund the store where you will buy the game, or choose a compatible Ultimate membership code for subscription access. ACEB sells the following types of code with supported cryptocurrency payment options.
Xbox Gift Card
Add account credit toward the Microsoft/Xbox version of E-Day or its eligible upgrade. For a compatible U.S. account, start with the Xbox USA Gift Card.
Steam Gift Card
Add Steam Wallet funds for your Steam purchase. Compare Steam EUR and Steam USD USA, checking the exact variant’s account coverage.
Game Pass Ultimate code
Choose prepaid membership rather than store balance. Check the options below for a compatible account.
Confirm the period and eligibility for the selected code.
An Xbox or Steam gift card provides store credit; you then buy the game in that store. An Ultimate code provides membership access. Neither gift card is an E-Day game key. Paying with crypto on ACEB funds the code purchase; you do not need the game’s storefront to accept crypto directly.
Choose the right region and amount before you pay
Use your actual account and the edition you intend to buy when setting the budget:
- Check the local checkout total. Include any tax shown for the game or upgrade, then subtract usable balance already in your account.
- Match the code to your account. For Xbox, check the card’s country and currency restrictions; Microsoft account balance cannot be converted to another currency.[8]
- Check the exact Steam variant. Steam says Wallet Codes convert into the receiving Wallet’s currency, but that does not make every supplier variant compatible with every account. Check ACEB’s displayed coverage for the code you select.[9]
- Compare value with the amount you pay. The gift card’s face value and ACEB’s purchase total are separate amounts. Use the current order total when comparing your options.
You can also give a contribution toward E-Day instead of covering the full edition. Our recommendation is to let the recipient choose Standard or Premium, especially if you do not know whether they already have Game Pass. Ask which store and account region they use before choosing the code.
